Community Project: Coronation Celebration Bunting!

Community Project: Coronation Celebration Bunting!

Calling all Knitters, Crocheters and Pom-Pom makers, again!

The Coronation of King Charles III and The Queen Consort will take place on 6th May 2023.  People across the country and the Commonwealth are invited to celebrate the occasion during a weekend of special events to be held on 6th-8th May 2023.

To celebrate this event in Great Sankey, Stitch Station will be organising their second community yarn bombing of the Vicarage Park railings, and, once again, would like to give every member of the community the opportunity to be involved.

Following on from the amazing red, white and blue bunting display for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we will string multi-coloured, mini-bunting (and pom-poms) across the railings for The Coronation and leave them up for the community to enjoy for the rest of the summer!

Another ‘stash buster’ project!

If you would like to get involved, please pop into the shop to collect a new knit and/or crochet bunting pattern or message and we’ll email them to you.  We have amended the patterns to make the triangles slightly smaller (and quicker!) and they are both ideal for beginners.  Please feel free to ask for help if you’re a bit rusty or new to knit and crochet; or consider coming along to one of our groups or workshops.

Our patterns are just a guide to get you going.  Use your own favourite pattern if you have one or get creative with designing your own multi-coloured triangles! If you can string them together before dropping off, please do so in multiples of about 15 – 20 (and leave about 15cm either end for attaching).

The bunting (triangle) can be knitted or crocheted in any weight and shade of yarn that you have in your stash (wool or acrylic), and we will gladly accept donations of any surplus yarn in the shop.

Donations of knitted/crocheted triangles and pom-poms will gladly be accepted in the shop from 1st March until 1st May.

Details of the installation afternoon will follow.

Happy knitting and hooking!
