Community Project: Jubilee Bunting!

Community Project: Jubilee Bunting!

Calling all Knitters and Crocheters!

The Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated in 2022 to mark the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952.  Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.

To celebrate this historic reign, Stitch Station will be organising a community ‘yarn bombing’ of the Vicarage Park railings, and would like to give every member of the community the opportunity to be involved.

Following the popular ‘Poppy Display’ last November, Great Sankey Parish Council have kindly granted permission for knitted and crocheted bunting to be strung across the railings at the front of the park in June – when the country will be encouraged to celebrate during the extended Bank Holiday weekend.

It’s the ‘stash buster’ project you’ve all been waiting for!

If you would like to get involved, please pop into the shop to collect a knit and/or crochet bunting pattern or message and we’ll email them to you.  They have been written by the team and are suitable for beginners, but please feel free to ask for help if you’re a bit rusty or new to knit and crochet; or consider coming along to our ‘Knit and Knatter’ Group on a Thursday to meet other people working on the same project.

The bunting (pennant) can be knitted or crocheted in any weight and shade of red, white (yes, the shades do vary!) and blue yarn that you have in your stash – wool or acrylic, and we will gladly accept donations of any surplus red, white and blue yarn in the shop.  Donations of knitted/crocheted pennants will be accepted from 6 February until 6 May.  Details of the stringing together and installation weekends will follow.

Happy knitting and hooking!
